We are developing district-wide understanding and capacity so that all our students are members of classrooms that are inclusive learning communities. We are becoming more able to grow the strengths and meet the needs of students in their classrooms with their peers. We will provide appropriate supports and interventions whether a student has a diagnosis connected to a special education category or not. We are creating learning environments that enable students to develop a sense of belonging and ensure they see themselves in the curriculum. We know the improvements we make for vulnerable students or students with different interests and talents will benefit all students.

Some examples of the work of our plan are:

  • Fostering a growth mindset: all students can be successful
  • Shifting from pull-out to push-in supports so learning happens with peers in the context of classroom learning
  • Shifting from finding the right place for students to creating classroom communities for all students
  • Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) school leads team
  • Ease Everyday Anxiety Strategies for Educators (EASE) program K-12 and Mental Health Literacy (Gr 7-12) for the benefit of staff and students
  • Training for staff and community in creating trauma-informed resilient classrooms: Circle of Courage

PSO Mario Kart Tournament

Peter Skene Ogden Secondary

<p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Peter Skene Ogden Secondary hosted a lunchtime Mario Kart tournament on May 26 and 27 that brought students together through friendly competition, teamwork, and school spirit. The event supported our focus on Safe, Caring &amp; Inclusive Learning Communities by creating a welcoming space where students from different grades and social groups could connect, participate, and feel a sense of belonging. It was great to see students encouraging one another and creating positive relationships throughout the tournament. The top prize went to Marcus, good job bud!</span></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><img src="/images/f1ab6261-96d0-4aa8-924f-35e477a72ac7?fingerprint=ppb20260603210011" alt="PSO Mario Kart Tournament Robert Mac Donald" width="574" height="431" style="width:574px;height:431px;display:inline-block"></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p>

Keeping Kids Safe Online from Sexual Exploitation

Peter Skene Ogden Secondary

<p class="editor-paragraph"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Thank you to presenters Allison, Lara, and Tatyana from Children of the Street for delivering workshops on child and youth exploitation. These workshops were delivered in schools and also streamed for SD27's rural and remote students. Students from grades 6-12 got to partake in workshops that discussed online sexual exploitation and sextortion, warning signs of online luring and grooming, the impacts of intimate image sharing, digital citizenship and permanency, online safety tips, as well as safe adults and ways to reach out for help. Resources were shared with students and staff. Workshops were also offered to staff, parents &amp; caregivers and service providers in collaboration with Denisiqi and the Child Development Centre. A big shout out to schools that hosted the presentations: 100 Mile Elementary (hosted grades 6 &amp; 7 from Forest Grove, Lac La Hache, Mile 108, and Horse Lake), Peter Skene Ogden (hosted grades 8-12, staff, parents &amp; caregivers), Columneetza (hosted grades 7-9 and grade 6s from Marie Sharpe, Nesika, and Cataline), and Lake City Secondary (hosted grades 10-12, parents and caregivers)!</span></p><table class="editor-table" style="width: 100%; table-layout: fixed;"><colgroup><col style="width: 50%;"><col style="width: 50%;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th class="editor-tableCell editor-tableCellHeader" style="border: 1px solid black; vertical-align: top; text-align: start; background-color: rgb(242, 243, 245);"><p class="editor-paragraph"><img src="/images/bfa0f1a9-efb2-48b3-9af8-2eecf9c0f98e?fingerprint=ppb20260519171341" alt="Keeping Kids Safe Online from Sexual Exploitation" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p></th><th class="editor-tableCell editor-tableCellHeader" style="border: 1px solid black; vertical-align: top; text-align: start; background-color: rgb(242, 243, 245);"><p class="editor-paragraph"><img src="/images/51c68cb5-3e47-4e48-a0bf-2169ab9aedf7?fingerprint=ppb20260519171341" alt="Keeping Kids Safe Online from Sexual Exploitation 2" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p></th></tr></tbody></table><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p>

PSO Justin Brien Visit

Peter Skene Ogden Secondary

<p class="editor-paragraph" dir="ltr"><span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">On November 26, 2025, PSO hosted Justin Brien, former Junior hockey player turned motivational speaker and TED Talks presenter. He shared his story which navigated complex issues such as sports psychology, drugs / substance abuse, and mental health. PSO works hard to create a safe and caring community which supports all students' needs; the topics of mental health and addictions are essential for students to learn how to navigate. We believe in supporting all students struggling with loneliness, depression, and anxiety, and are seeking ways to cope. Justin addressed the stigma which surrounds these topics, and he encouraged students on how to find their own authentic values to live by. At this talk, PSO also welcomed 58 students from David Stoddart school in the neighbouring community of Clinton, BC, so that they would also have a chance to hear Justin's powerful story. The talk “hit home” for many students, who were visibly inspired after hearing about Justin’s healing journey.</span></p><table class="editor-table"><colgroup><col><col></colgroup><tbody><tr><th class="editor-tableCell editor-tableCellHeader" style="width: 350px; background-color: rgb(242, 243, 245); border: 1px solid black; vertical-align: top;"><p class="editor-paragraph"><img src="/images/1d1219cb-4107-4f48-bf0e-e6235fcb478b?fingerprint=ppb20251217033752" alt="PSO Justin Brien Visit 2 Robert MacDonald" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p></th><th class="editor-tableCell editor-tableCellHeader" style="width: 350px; background-color: rgb(242, 243, 245); border: 1px solid black; vertical-align: top;"><p class="editor-paragraph"><img src="/images/adc0a948-f30a-4bd3-87ff-87a3cf1cd9b7?fingerprint=ppb20251217035552" alt="PSO Justin Brien Visit 1 Robert MacDonald" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"></p><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p></th></tr></tbody></table><p class="editor-paragraph"><br></p>
